Who AM I?

Hello

My name is Dan, I am 24 and currently working through my Sport and Exercise Psychology Masters degree at Loughborough University. I was born in Solihull, which has produced national treasures such as Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish ( who coincidently is included in my claim to fame as we went to the same secondary school).

Whilst Jack has remained loyal to his roots, I found myself swapping Solihull for Canada. In 2013 my family moved to Calgary. This is the city where Eddy the Eagle and the Jamaican bobsled team made a name for themselves in the 1988 Winter Olympics. I finished high school ( which surprisingly gave me an appreciation for uniforms instead of constant own clothes days) and then enrolled at Mount Royal University for a BA Psychology degree.

Whilst obtaining my degree, my eyes were opened to a whole new world of sports. I found myself captivated by the fast and brutal nature of Ice Hockey through the Calgary Flames, invested in the technicality of the NFL by watching the Dallas Cowboys and thrilled by University competitions such as March Madness supporting the Tarheels. I quickly realized that I was no longer solely an Aston Villa fan (although I did make sure to get up at 5:30am due to time zone differences to watch them every weekend)

Not only does North America showcase different sports, it also is one giant playground. Since being in Canada I have learnt to snowboard in Banff, play pond hockey at Lake Louise, Dog sledding and snowmobiling in the Yukon, waterskiing ( if standing up for 10 seconds counts) in British Columbia and hike in the Rockies to places such as Galatea Lake (in the photo below) that left me breathless for more than one reason.

I did all of this while learning more about psychology and slowly started to realize that my passion for sports could be intertwined with my degree. That is when I decided to look at a Msc in Sport Psychology and where better to do that than in Loughborough.

I love trying new things, therefore I'm going to see what I can achieve with a blog. My main goal is to transfer what I learn in the classroom to current events in the sporting world and see what happens from there!
